  Inlay Lake ( Shan )
Inle Lake, 900 m above sea level, is 30 km from the south of Taunggyi.This mysterious lake in the Shan State is famous especially for the Intha fishermen who standing at the stern of a slender boat, row with one leg.A boat trip on the lake is very enjoyable and exhilarating with a cool breeze, warm sun and seagulls flying overhead.
 
Taunggyi
With a literal meaning of "Big Mountain", Taunggyi is the capital of Shan State, situated at 1460 m above sea level, one hour's drive from Inle Lake.Its colourful and bustling open market, which is where all the ethnic races in the vicinity converge is fascinating and is worth visiting.
 
  Pindaya
One and half-hour's drive from Inle.Pindaya is situated 1180 m above sea level.The main inhabitants are the Danu and the Pa-O, who still wear their traditional dresses.It is famous for its celebrated caves called "Shwe U Min" with their stalactites and stalagmites. There are 8094 Buddha Images covered in gold leaf on the cavern walls.
 
Kalaw
Two hour's drive from Inle, Kalaw is situated 1300 m above the sea level in the Shan Hills. It is a summer resort with fragrant pine trees and orange groves and ideal for those who wish to leave behind for a while the pressures and problems of modern urban life. Trekking to Palaung tribal villages could be an added attraction for hikers.
 
  Kakku
Deep in the heart of Myanmar's Shan State lies one of the largest cluster of Asia's most spectacular ancient monuments.The site contains over 2000 Buddhist stupas with origins dating back many centuries.

It exists not only as an outstanding example of traditional art and architecture but also as a testament to the religious devotion of one of Myanmar's many ethnic races, the Pa-Oh. According to legend, Kakku was built by the grandson of King Kyansittha, "King A Laung Si Thu" and they were built around the 13th century, A.D.
Kakku, lies in Taunggyi Township, Shan State. It is 2½hour's drive from Heho & 2½hours drive from Inle Lake .
 
Tachileik
There is a town named Tachileik, which is the gateway to the Golden Triangle and it is 163 km away from Kyaing Tong.It is a Myanmar-thai border town and across the Friendship Bridge is its Thai counterpart the town of Mae Sai.
 
  Kyaingtong
Located high in the Shan Hills at the center of the Golden Triangle, it is one of the country's most remote outposts and probably the most scenic town in the Shan State. Built around a small lake, and dotted with aging Buddhist temples and crumbling British colonial architecture, Kentung is probably the most scenic town in the Shan State. Living almost side by side in small communities are groups of Ang, Lahu, Pao, Wa, Lihsaw, Padaung, Shan, Chin and Akha.
 
Mong La
Three hours drive from Kyaing Tong is the Myanmar-China border town called Mong La. Places of interest are unspoilt old monastery, villages of native tribes, a museum to commemorate the establishment of an opium free zone, a visit to the boundary post with China and a garden of the multi-tribes in the area.
 
  Lashio
The capital of northern Shan State is 7 hours drive from Mandalay.It has a population of 150,000. It serves as Myanmar-China border trade centre.The scenery on the way with its towering mountains, the swiftly flowing Duhtawady River running alongside most of the way in the foot hills and the spectacular Gohteik Gorge are captivating and once in Lashio the central market and hot springs are also interesting places to visit.
 
Hsipaw
Hsipaw was once the center of the Shan State, this town is famous for its Shan Cheiftain's Palace on the road to Lashio.Travelling by train from Mandalay one crosses the Gokhteik Viaduct, a marvel of engineering in its day, spanning the Gohteik Gorge.
 
  Muse
Located about 477 km from Mandalay, in the northeast, it takes a 12 hour drive to get there.Muse is the border town between Myanmar and China.A special permit to visit Muse is required before the trip.Arrangements for entry procedures takes 10 to 15 days for the travel agency.
